Kristina Šmigun-Vähi is named Estonia’s best female athlete in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006.
She was named Sportstar – a title of honor by the International Olympic Committee in 2006 and in 2010 Kristina won the title – Woman of the Year. She has participated in numerous olympic games – 1994 Lillehammer, 1998 Nagano, 2002 Salt Lake City, 2006 Torino (2 first places), 2010 Vancouver. Kristina is a 2-time Olympic gold medalist and world champion in cross-country skiing. Today she is a member in estonian parliament and her main focus is health and wellness amongst our youth. She strongly believes that exercise is vital for our well being. Kristina was born in 1977 in Tartu. Her parents were also skiers – Rutt and Anatoli Šmigun. She graduated from Tartu Commercial Gymnasium in 1996. After having a daughter of her own, she returned to cross-country skiing for one last season and won a silver medal in 2010 Vancouver Olympic games.
